Who Am I?
Birth is truth, mamas open, babies come out and families are born. I have experienced birth as essentially simple and sacred. Unfortunately the birth process is often interrupted in myriad different ways. My job as a midwife is to use the powerful tools of patience and privacy to hold open sacred space around the laboring mama and baby so that they can follow their instincts and birth with strength, peace, grace and beauty.
I am a Lawrence, KS native, mother of 7 year-old Arlo and 3 year-old Oscar, wife to Aaron Paden. I received my doula training from DONA International and began attending births in Lawrence in 2002. I have been teaching early pregnancy, childbirth and Fertility Awareness Method classes since 2005. I have apprenticed with three local homebirth midwives, Fran Beier, Brenda Frankenfeld and Rena Figures, CPM on my journey to become a traditional midwife. I'm currently working towards the Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) credential. For more information about the CPM go to www.narm.org. the official webste of the North American Registry of Midwives. In 2010 I trained as a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist with Placenta Benefits Inc. and began offering placenta remedies to families.
